-
04/27/2026 - 04/28/2026
9:00 am - 4:00 pm Pacific Time

Location: Fully online
The two-day, fully online Ichthyology course provides a comprehensive overview of marine and freshwater fish phylogeny, ecology, and physiology. Participants will develop the foundation for studying and managing fisheries and evaluating biological requirements for fish habitat restoration projects.
Taught by one of Canada’s foremost Ecologists and researchers, this ‘hands on’ online ecology course training includes presentation, lecture, and case study reviews.
Program Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, you will be able to:
- Identify, compare, and contrast major taxonomic groups of marine and freshwater fish using standard phylogenetic classifications.
- Identify key internal and external anatomical features of fish and explain their primary functions.
- Describe core physiological processes in fish, including respiration, circulation, digestion, and reproduction.
- Describe major ecological behaviours and guilds of fish, including feeding strategies, habitat use, and life history patterns.
- Apply principles of fish ecology and physiology to interpret case studies related to fish habitat restoration, fisheries research, or fisheries management.
“The course and its instructor are fantastic! The materials and their delivery were extremely effective and thorough. I really enjoyed Jeff’s lecture style – he did an excellent job of supplementing the information he was delivering with anecdotes and examples from his years of working in and around fisheries. I am very excited to apply the knowledge that I acquired via this course in my own career!”
