NRTG is dedicated to maintaining academic integrity, which encompasses a set of core values, principles, behaviours, and skills essential to learning. Students who understand and apply these principles are equipped to make informed, ethical decisions.

This policy applies to all NRTG students participating in NRTG training, whether in-person, online, or through hybrid courses, regardless of course length or format.

Students are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity in all academic endeavours. Honest academic work involves independent analysis and proper acknowledgment of all sources contributing to the development of ideas. As an NRTG student, you agree to:

Refrain from engaging in activities that would dishonestly alter your results or those of others.
Refrain from sharing answers to problems used to assess student performance.

AI Use Policy for Students

As a student, you can use AI tools to support your learning. You may not use them to complete assessments or exercises for you.

Guiding Principles

Fairness & Inclusion
AI can produce wrong information or repeat bias, especially on regulations, specifications, and technical standards. In environmental training, that matters. Check AI output against your course materials or a credible source before you trust it.
Transparency
If you use AI for digitally submitted work, be clear you did so. Add a line such as: “I used AI tools to support drafting. I reviewed the content and it reflects my own understanding.” This disclosure isn’t required for handwritten or in-person work.
Privacy & Data Protection
Keep personal and confidential information, including other students’ names or private conversations, out of AI tools. Free AI tools often use your input to train their models. When in doubt, leave it out.
Accountability
You are responsible for the work you submit. Submitting AI-generated work as your own puts your certification at risk.
Environmental Responsibility
AI use has a real energy cost. Use it when it adds value to your learning, not as your first move for every question.

What AI can help you with

Understand a concept you are struggling with
Review or improve the clarity of something you have already written
Brainstorm ideas before drafting your own response
Summarize reading material to support your studying

What is not permitted

Submit AI- generated quizzes, assessments, or assignments as your own
Use AI to complete field observation logs or practical exercises
Replace your own analysis, reflection, or application of course material

Academic Integrity

Undisclosed AI used to prepare submitted work is a breach of NRTG’s Academic Policy. The consequence is a required resubmission. If your instructor sets specific AI guidelines for a course, follow those instead. When you are unsure, ask your instructor before submitting.
