Description:

The two-day fully online Water Quality Assessment and Management course provides students with in-demand knowledge and skills required to assess water quality and manage water quality programs. The online instruction includes detailed case studies and group activities, where students learn how to identify environmental and habitat factors that influence and impact water quality, determine the appropriate scale of assessment needed, conduct water quality assessments in flowing water, lakes, and wetlands, and develop detailed and accurate water quality assessment reports.

Who attends?

Field technicians, biologists, Indigenous stakeholders, engineers, planners, and other environmental professionals. This course is also suitable for students who are interested in pursuing a career in water quality assessment, monitoring, and management. 

How do I attend?

This course is available via our website schedule, or on contract to companies, community groups or organizations. This course will be scheduled for delivery throughout the year (providing suitable weather). What do I bring or supply?

Participants are required to supply their own computer and have a stable internet connection to access live lessons on a web-based learning platform. Writing supplies for taking notes are also recommended.

Upon successful completion, participants will be able to: 

  • Conduct a water quality assessment to national standards.
  • Identify the criteria and rationale employed to conduct a water quality assessment.
  • Identify the biological, physical, and chemical indicators for water quality.
  • Interpret and apply water quality assessment federal legislation.
  • Determine when to conduct a rapid and intensive water quality assessment.
  • Identify where and why a water quality assessment is needed.
  • Identify the key water quality assessment report components.
  • Develop a detailed water quality assessment report.

Sama AlMaarofi

Ecological Assessment Specialist

Dr. Sama AlMaarofi is an ecological assessment specialist with over 20 years of experience. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Baghdad, Iraq; She obtained her Masters and PhD from the University of Waterloo, Canada.

As a designated educator, Sama has over 10 years of experience teaching environmental management and sustainability courses and 7 years of experience developing academic curriculums and technical training programs.

As an environmental consultant, Sama has 12 years of experience conducting environmental surveys for environmental bio-assessments studies.
