Angeline Bristol
Communications Manager
As the Communications Manager for NRTG, Angeline brings extensive experience in communications and marketing. Before Angeline joined NRTG she worked in top level marketing and sales positions in Toronto and Vancouver for AMEX, Holt Renfrew and Clinique. She has studied business and economics at the university level and in 2012 she received the prestigious National “Cosa Award” for customer service and sales excellence. Most recently she received full certification in Social Media Management from SMP (Social Media Professionals Inc.)
It is this breadth of marketing experience, strong communication skills and a genuine appreciation for people that she applies to her role every day at Natural Resources Training Group. When she’s not planning and implementing social media and marketing strategies for NRTG she likes to enjoy the outdoors with her family or browsing local west coast art galleries.
Most recently, Angeline has been nominated in the 2024 Women of Influence Nanaimo Awards (WIN) for Business Impact! This prestigious recognition is a testament to Angeline’s outstanding contributions and impact in our community and NRTG couldn’t be more proud!
Kristy Callahan
Business Development Manager
As the Business Development Manager at NRTG Kristy is committed to assisting students and clients with course related questions, sourcing and applying for funding, and coordinating private deliveries to communities all across North America. With a thriving passion for the work that she does, she aims to help other’s dreams become a reality when it comes to working with nature. Having indigenous roots herself brings her closer to the land we all live on and a never-ending urge to protect it.
Her experience in locating and applying for funding with The Nature Conservatory, as well as client account management in a variety of topics from law and security to dental and media, only begins to depict the type of support she provides and the interests she has.
Aside from her professional life she enjoys travelling, spending time with her four children, and going to concerts. She also enjoys taking on challenges and facing her fears – like heights!
Jordan Copestake
Operations Manager
As Operations Manager, Jordan is always searching for a better way to do things at NRTG. With her experience in change management and digital transformation, she works hard to make our processes as effortless as possible. Jordan’s commitment is to use her knowledge and skills to introduce processes to allow us to deliver high quality education as we change and grow, and to adapt to the world as it changes; she brings tools to allow our instructors and managers focus on the students rather than the processes.. Ensuring our students have a fun and frictionless journey is Jordan’s number one priority.
Jordan left her role at the fastest growing driving school in the UK to relocate to Canada in spring 2023. On top of years of working in operations and customer experience, she’s also undertaking a Masters in Business Administration. It’s this lifelong passion for learning that Jordan shares with our students and ethos here at NRTG. When she’s not working or studying, you’ll find Jordan adventuring around the trails and lakes in the Rockies.
Darren Hebert
President
Since 1991, Darren has designed and delivered natural resource-related training programs for more than 21,000 environmental practitioners in North America. As a highly regarded training provider, Darren leads with passion, empathy, and kindness to bring significant value to students, client groups, and industry. In 2016, he launched NRTG and has, with our amazing team, grown and advanced our company into an internationally recognized training organization that delivers world class courses, programs, and services to clients and students located around the world.
On a personal level, Darren is passionate about wildlife and landscape photography, the great outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.
Anna Jardine
Website IT Technician
As the Website IT Technician at NRTG Anna is the point of contact for anything related to the website and acts as IT support for students and staff. Whether it is adding new courses, helping students access their course materials, or troubleshooting issues… Anna is there to help.
Anna has been a WordPress Web Developer and Designer since 2020. She has worked with notable WordPress educator Julia Taylor of GeekPack® to empower women to learn how to code and build their own web development businesses. Not only does she have the technical skills required for this position, but she also has the educational expertise to break down complex technical jargon into simple steps to effectively assist others.
When she’s not online, Anna can be found spending time with her fiancé, pets, and caring for her garden and houseplants.
Tracy Lewis-McNutt
Bookkeeper
Tracy is the Bookkeeper at NRTG, bringing knowledge and experience to the financial department. Before joining NRTG she worked with her own family business, doing full cycle accounting. Tracy prioritizes education and continual learning, and so she takes full advantage of upgrading opportunities.
When not sitting at the computer invoicing, answering emails and balancing accounts, she enjoys the outdoors, her horses, farm, family, and friends.
Joeline Lim
Program Manager
As a Program Manager, Joeline applies her expertise in educational pedagogy and instructional design to develop and implement effective learning strategies across educational programs. With a Master of Science in Biology, she leverages her background in scientific research and communication to design accessible, innovative, and interactive learning modules and materials.
Joeline is dedicated to optimizing processes and improving efficiencies throughout program lifecycles. Her people-first approach reflects NRTG’s commitment to empathy and kindness, and she is passionate about creating transformative learning experiences that foster positive socio-environmental change.
Outside of work, Joeline enjoys exploring new hobbies. From experimenting with new recipes and sewing, to gardening and snowshoeing, she views lifelong learning as a continuous journey that extends beyond the professional sphere.
Sandra Miller
Administrative Coordinator
As our Administrative Coordinator, Sandra is the front line with phone calls, email enquiries, and registration requests; she brings with her many years of customer relations experience. Before Sandra joined NRTG, she developed a long career as a Corporate and Securities paralegal and then ventured off into jobs that brought her joy in the retail sector after leaving the legal world behind. Sandra is empathetic, organized, creative, and a skilled multi-tasker who brings all of that to her day-to-day dealings with our students and staff. When Sandra is not keeping her finger on the pulse of registrations, she can be found creating visual art pieces and spending time with her family.
Sean Mitchell
Program Manager
Sean has worked in and studied the fields of biology and impact assessment since 1987 and in that time has gained experience in British Columbia, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland working on a broad array of fish and wildlife, from periphyton to moose. His experience has ranged widely from basic fieldwork to experimental biomechanics of crustaceans; from fisheries issues through biogeography, philosophy, and sophisticated data analyses; from forests to the oceans.
Complementing this thirty five years of technical expertise Sean has been teaching and developing courses since 2001, initially at universities before transitioning to NRTG in 2017. In all of his teaching he has focussed on what students need to know in order to do their job better or to enter into the workplace. As an NRTG Program Manager he oversees and participates in new course development, review of existing courses, and organizing delivery of programs, either online or in-person. Sean is also a professional writer and wildlife consultant; these are skills and knowledge he then brings to many of the courses developed.
Aliza Nasir
Digital Marketing Manager
Aliza Nasir is a passionate Digital Marketing Manager at NRTG, bringing creativity and expertise in communications and marketing to the team. With a strong background as a graphic designer and digital marketer, Aliza’s professional journey has been marked by outstanding achievements in crafting compelling visual content and driving impactful online campaigns.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Aliza finds solace in the world of art and photography. Her love for painting and capturing moments through the lens fuels her creative spirit. When not immersed in the digital realm, you can find her venturing into the woods for invigorating hikes and camping adventures.
With a strong commitment to excellence and a blend of artistic flair and marketing prowess, Aliza strives to make a positive impact in both her professional and personal pursuits.
Amberine (Amber) Petersen
Executive Assistant
As NRTG’s Executive Assistant, Amber leverages nearly a decade of experience in providing exceptional support to C-suite executives across diverse industries. Her dedication to excellence is evident in her meticulous organization, precise attention to detail, and adept management of complex schedules and high-stakes meetings. Amber’s prior career as a flight attendant with two world-renowned airlines afforded her the opportunity to travel extensively, cultivating a deep appreciation for cultural diversity and global perspectives. In her personal time, Amber enjoys watching films and creating lasting memories with her family.
Gwen Schroeder
Program Manager / Instructor
Over the past ten years Gwen has progressed through the fisheries industry from a deck hand on a commercial fishing vessel to running sampling and monitoring programs on BC’s coast. She brings that experience to NRTG in the role of Program Manager. Into this position she incorporates her academic study of ecosystems and biology, and her real-world experience in management and Canada’s aquatic industry, to manage the delivery of our aquatic courses.
Gwen is passionate for the marine environment, injecting this into her daily life with hobbies of surfing, beach walks with her dog, snorkeling in the ocean and rivers, and admiring all the life found in the tidepools of the west coast.
Caroline Turnbull
People and Culture Manager
At NRTG, we know that our people are our most valuable resource. That’s why we place such a strong emphasis on creating a culture that values kindness and empathy. Caroline joins us with years of experience leading HR and Administrative initiatives. She is passionate about building an environment where employees feel appreciated and supported enabling them to reach their full potential. We believe that when our employees are happy and fulfilled, they provide the best possible care for our clients and students.
Prior to joining NRTG Caroline worked in a variety of industries spanning both the corporate world and national heritage sectors in Canada and the UK. She now brings her knowledge and client-oriented expertise to support all at NRTG as our People and Culture Manager and Administrative Manager.
