Description

Spill Response Due Diligence (SRDD) is an applied, one-to-two-day, field-based course focusing on coastal, inland and freshwater applications and conditions. Attain skills, knowledge and abilities to confidently and effectively prevent and manage potential spills at a job site.

Objectives

  • Conduct Incident & Environmental Assessment Techniques
  • Use a Fate & Effects information sheet on the dangerous good involved in the spill incident to make an informed decision on how to proceed with a response strategy
  • Conduct an environmental assessment to identify impact(s)
  • Implement effective sampling techniques at a spill incident
  • Develop and submit an effective Progress Report
  • Meet Provincial and Federal reporting requirements
  • Meet the test of Due Diligence
  • Develop an Emergency Response Plan and/or Geographic Response Plan
  • Identify and implement an effective response plan
  • Develop a prevention & preparedness plan
  • Choose and use spill response equipment effectively
  • Practice common containment, collection and recovery systems on water courses
  • Effectively compare and choose between treatment and disposal options
  • Employ Containment techniques and procedures for land-based spills
  • Contrast and apply the applicable legal requirements when transporting dangerous goods
  • Review and utilize the applicable industry standards that apply to the BC and Federal Fire Codes
  • Implement best management practices that apply to spill prevention, spill preparedness and response at remote field projects
  • Identify the hazards associated with a dangerous goods incident
  • Implement site security, notification, and response measures
  • Identify appropriate containment, recovery, cleanup, and disposal options
  • Compare and select best options involved in developing and implementing a site restoration plan
  • Use Approved Working Water Quality Guidelines and Provincial Land Use Criteria
