NRTG’s MicroCourses offer a dynamic training pathway that’s as flexible as it is enriching to build expertise. Our Fundamentals of Soil Sampling I: Soil Texturing MicroCourse, spanning four hours, delivers in-depth training in an easily digestible format. It’s designed to maximize your skills for immediate application.
This course is designed for individuals across various disciplines who require precise soil classification skills. This online course offers a hands-on approach, where students will engage in live soil texture analysis sessions to gain a thorough understanding of soil textures. Using simple tools, participants will learn various techniques for accurate soil classification and validation.
Additionally, the course delves into the practical implications of Sands, Silts, and Clays on land and within marine environments. Students will explore the significance of soil properties in agriculture, construction, environmental work, forestry, horticulture, riparian management, in-stream works, and engineering.
Catering to both newcomers and seasoned professionals in soil classification and management. Participants will also benefit from lifetime access to the instructor for ongoing support and guidance. In-person deliveries are available for those seeking a more immersive learning experience.
What should I bring or supply?
- At least three soil samples, each 235mm3 (one cup) in size – one of a coarse texture (what the student thinks is sand), etc, medium texture (the student cannot define the texture) and fine textured (silt or clay). Soil samples should be clean enough to safely handle (no contaminants, feces), and contain mainly particles less than 2mm in size.
- 3 clear glass cylinders (spice jar, canning jar, graduated cylinder, etc.).
- Enough water to fill up glass jars.
- Fine tipped felt pen.
- A scale with millimeters.
Course will be 4 hours long.
